Janis “Darlene” Hood, 74, of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023 at her home.
Born on Friday, December 31, 1948 in Tazewell, VA, she was a daughter of the late Herman Neil Sparks and Uva Leon Bandy Sparks. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow L. “Woody” Hood, Jr., who died in 2018; and four siblings, Howard Sparks, Maybelle Beavers, Margie Powers, and Gladys Elste. Darlene was a self-employed and licensed cosmetologist at Hair plus in Reisterstown and in the New Oxford area for many years. She will be long remembered for her devoted work ethic and the special bond she had with her faithful clients. An avid Baltimore Ravens fan, Darlene thoroughly enjoyed connecting with family and friends, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and beloved dog, Willow.
Survivors include a son, Richard G. Kittle and his wife, Alison, of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter, Kimberly L. Hale and her husband, Darryl, of Taneytown, MD; four grandchildren, Dalton and Timothy Kittle, and Morgan and Mason Hale; four siblings, Marie, Betty, Loucille, Lawrence and their families; and several nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
A service to celebrate Darlene’s life will be held at a later date.
