Services: The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Janet E. Buffington, 73, of Hanover, wife of 57 years to Joseph Buffington, entered into God’s eternal care Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Hanover Hospital following an unexpected illness.Born on June 27, 1935 in Adams County, she was a daughter of the late Norman L. and Catherine Kemper Martz. She was also preceded in death by a baby sister, Lois D. Martz. Throughout her life, she had been employed by various businesses within the community beginning with Murphy’s Five and Ten, Bupp’s Dairy, Freeman Shoe Co., Snyder’s of Hanover, The Hanover Public Library and most recently American Greetings. She was a member of the Elks Auxiliary, the Hanover Red Hat Club, and the Y-Wives, where she served as Past President. She was formerly active with the Girl Scouts of America. She loved animals, enjoyed playing cards with her family and was an avid Penn State Nittany Lions Fan.Surviving, in addition to her husband, is her daughter, Sharon Buffington and her husband Sam Cunningham of York and her grandson, Michael Bruckart and his wife Angela.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a college fund for her future great-grandchildren c/o CollegeAmerica, 1024 Shafer Drive, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the York Co. SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17402.
