Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00PM Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church by Rev. John A. Szada, Jr. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
James Donald “Spic” Spangler, 82, of Hanover entered into God’s eternal care Sunday, August 31, 2008 from The Brethren Home.Born October 5, 1925 in McSherrystown, PA, he was a son of the late James Donald Spangler, Sr. and Muriel Rice Spangler. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lois V. Spangler, who died in 2004, and a brother, Thomas Spangler.Mr. Spangler was a graduate of Delone High School and the Thompson Business Institute. He was a longtime employee of Schuchart Oil Company, where he retired as the Credit Manager in 1993. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW Post #2506 in Hanover. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Hanover Elks Lodge, and the Home Association of McSherrystown.Survivors include his two daughters, Kimberly Banchs of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Liz Crum of Hanover; two sisters, Lorraine “Kitty” Stonesifer and Patricia Borowick, both of Hanover; a granddaughter, Amy Brinton; a great granddaughter, Evelyn Brinton; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion “Roscoe”.
