James F. “Jim” McMaster, Sr., 67, of Hanover, longtime companion of Sharon Miller, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at York Hospital, surrounded by his family following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Born on Saturday, June 19, 1948 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Lawrence J. and Mary Catherine Bunty McMaster and husband of 37 years to the late Mary Jane Newman McMaster, who died in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Charles and Lawrence McMaster.
A 1966 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, he was a veteran of the United States Army. Having served during the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his bravery and heroic achievement in combat. He loved diesel engines and open highways and spent his career as a self-employed truck driver. He traveled all over the United States, but loved the West Coast. Skilled with his hands, he enjoyed fixing his friends’ cars. “Pappy Jim” had a big, fun personality with a quick wit and he assigned special nicknames to everyone. He was incapable of small talk, so when he spoke, his words were of meaning.

McMaster and his fiancée, Eileen Hawbaker, all of Hanover and Michael P.
