James Lee “Jim” Kopp, Sr., 77 of Westminster, MD, husband of Barbara A. Becker Kopp, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Baltimore, MD.
Born on Friday, August 29, 1941, he was a son of the late Oscar W. and Hilda L. Day Kopp. Jim was the Meat Manager at Weis Markets for 51 years, last working in Hampstead this past November. He served with the U.S. Army and was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Littlestown. Jim loved to fish, enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening and spending time with his “little dog” Robbie. For many years, he sang as part of a musical quartet and later joined the Helping Hands Quartet singing at various churches and nursing homes. He was captivated with babies and red headed girls that wore braids, just as his wife did when he first met her. Jim could start a conversation with anyone, was very selfless and loved his church and family.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is also survived by two daughters, Katherine E. Lawrence and Tammy L. Kopp and her husband, Gary Payne, all of Hanover; a son, James Lee Kopp, Jr. and his wife, Tiffany, of McSherrystown; his “little doggie” Robbie; five grandchildren, Billy, Matt, Nick, McKenzie and Marlee; three brothers, Eugene R. Kopp and his wife, Louise, Dennis L. Kopp and his wife, Joyce, all of Hanover, and David S. Kopp and his wife, Shari, of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Kopp.
A funeral will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Bethel Assembly of God, 1125 Frederick Pike, Littlestown with Pastor Rick Ritenour officiating. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 5:30 to 8 PM Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Assembly of God at the address above.
