James R. Dell, 80 of Hanover, companion for many years to Jane Bixler, died suddenly on Monday, October 15, 2018.
Born Friday, April 8, 1938 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Margaret E. Jacobs. In his early years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. James was formerly employed at Hanover Scrap Yard for 20 years. He was also a former volunteer for 25 years at Hanover Area Council Churches (Mission), where he was able to share his time and love with many. He will be remembered for having a great sense of humor, a big heart and always willing to help others.
In addition to his companion, Jane, he is survived by his former wife and longtime friend, Phyllis Cunningham; three children, Randy Dell and his wife Sandy, Robin Pittinger and her husband Scott and Pennie Gilbert and her husband Doug; five grandchildren, Tabitha, Adam, Tiffany, Brittany and Erika; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Curry and Margaret Becker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 12 siblings.
A funeral will be held at 12 PM Friday, October 19, 2018 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc. with Pastor Dan Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
