James D. “Jim” Bankert, 87, of Hanover, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Hanover Hall Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born on Friday, October 19, 1934, he was a son of the late Clinton and Pauline Warner Bankert. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Grant; three sisters, Beatrice Dehoff, Shirley Storm, and Catherine Sipling; and two grandchildren, Crystal Bankert and Alan Bankert.
James loved to hunt deer and groundhogs. He also enjoyed collecting old toys and trinkets at garage sales or auctions, as well as meeting friends for breakfast several days a week. Evenings usually found him reading the paper or watching westerns, bull riding or nature shows. James liked to visit people but rarely stayed long. He was a man of few words but those who knew and loved him understood him well.
Surviving his memory are three children, James “Jim” Bankert and his wife, Judy, of Milroy, Jerome Bankert and his wife, Cressie, of Oklahoma, and Dennis Bankert and his wife, Kimberly, of Shermans Dale; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and two siblings, Nancy Jessee and her husband, James, and Clinton “Bud” Bankert and his wife, Dawn.
A service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at St Paul’s (Dubs) Union Church at 1030 AM with The Rev. Susan E. Fritz officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St Paul’s (Dubs) Union Church Cemetery.
