Imogene M. “Jean” George, 89, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Hanover Hall. She was the wife of Clair L. George, with whom she would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on November 28, 2009.
Born December 27, 1919 in Glencoe, AL, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Jennie Lee Harvey, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Harvey. Mrs. George worked as a nurses aide at Hanover Hospital for many years and served with the US Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge # 763, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2506, AmVets Post # 22, and was the first active female member of the Hanover American Legion Post # 14.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a son, Phillip L. George and his wife, Vickie, of Hanover; two granddaughters, Kelley S. Ritter and her husband, Michael, of Camp Hill, and Kristen A. VanHaaren and her husband, Jeff, of Arlington, VA; a grandson, Timothy P. George of San Diego, CA; a step-grandson, Matthew Thomas of Hanover; and three great-grandchildren, Paige and Madison Ritter, Alexander VanHaaren, and Kaylyn Thomas.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
