Gene I. Wentz, 80, of Hanover, loving husband of Patricia Comitz Wentz, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Hanover Hall.
Born on November 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Ivan P. and Grace Bechtel Wentz, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Baile and a nephew, Dennis Baile. Before his retirement in 1987, he was employed by GDC/ Keystone-Seneca Wire Cloth Co.
Mr. Wentz served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later became a member of the Hanover VFW Post # 2506. He was also a member of Patmos Lodge #348 F&AM and a proud member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and cherished the time that he spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of nearly 57 years, he is survived by his daughter, Kelly G. Horner and her husband, Tim; one granddaughter, Lily Horner; a niece, Connie Baile and a nephew, Bruce Baile.
The funeral will be held 10 am Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc. 311 Broadway, Hanover with Pastor Jerry Shoap and Pastor Dan Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bartholomew United Church ELCA Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
