Hilda M. Shafer, 97, of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
Born on October 17, 1914 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Goldie Waltersdorf Myers and wife of 65 years to the late Russell M. Shafer, Jr., who died in 1999. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Myers and Dennis Myers.
A 1932 graduate of Hanover High School, she attended St. Joseph Academy for post graduate studies. She had been employed by The Personal Finance Company for three years prior to raising her family. She was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Hanover Historical Society and the Hanover Garden Club. She was also a member of the Palmetto Pines Country Club in Cape Coral, FL and a lifelong member of the Hanover Country Club, where she was an outstanding and devoted duplicate bridge player and an avid golfer.
She is survived by her three daughters, Carol J. Callahan and her husband, Paul of Berwyn, PA, Susan S. McGurk and her husband, Robert of Westtown, PA, and Kathryn S. Sonner and her husband, Stephen of Annandale, VA; three grandchildren, Susan Callahan, Christopher McGurk and Michael Sonner; three great-grandchildren, Holly and Caitlin McGurk and Anne Sonner and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
