Hilda E. Lyba

Hilda Evelyn (Rinkenberg) Lyba journeyed to heaven on Saturday, January 27, 2018 with family by her side.
She was born June 9th, 1922 in Tamaqua, PA to Winfield S. & Laura E. (Scheid) Rinkenberg. She was preceded in death by son Frank J. Meck Jr., brother, Harold Rinkenberg, and three husbands; Frank J. Meck Sr., the love of her life, passed in 1977. Steve Lyba, with whom she shared passions for volunteering and world travel, passed in 2001. Paul E. Sell, her companion in her golden years, passed in 2016.

Hilda retired as manager of Tobias Fine Apparel, where she perfected her skill at putting together beautiful ladies’ ensembles accessorized to a “T”. She traveled throughout the Mid-Atlantic training personnel and assisting in opening other Tobias locations. She loved helping women look and feel their best.

Hilda thrived on being involved in community service. She was an Elder in her home church of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Tamaqua, was head of the Altar Guild, and was also involved in Choir, Youth Education, and Ladies Auxiliary. She served on the Draft Board during the 1960’s and 1970’s, and was a member of the Schuylkill County Board of Elections for over a decade. She volunteered many hours at the Miners Memorial Medical Center in Coaldale. One of her proudest accomplishments was the establishment of the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center, of which she and husband Steve Lyba were Charter Members.

Hilda relocated to New Oxford, PA in 2005 to be closer to her family. She was blessed to be welcomed as a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Hanover, and considered her fellow parishioners to be her second family. She continued serving her community by volunteering at Cross Keys Village Adult Day Center and delivering the Village Meals-On-Wheels, among many other volunteer roles. She especially enjoyed her Red Hat Ladies group luncheons and CKV bus trips. If you encountered Hilda out and about, she was always smartly dressed, most likely walking her Shih-Tzu “Nittany Sue”, and would never let you pass by without a heartfelt hug.

Hilda is survived by daughter-in-law Patricia Meck of Carlisle, granddaughter Terri & husband David Shaner, great grandsons Justin Meck and Adam & wife Erica Shaner, all of McSherrystown, beloved sister-in-law Helene Lyba of Lehighton, extended family and step-families.

A Service of Remembrance will be held April 14, 2018 at 3:30 pm at the Nicarry Meetinghouse, Cross Keys Village, New Oxford. A light meal and fellowship will follow the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Hilda requested that persons wishing to make a memorial donation do so to one of the following: Good Samaritan Fund, The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350 or to the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center, 300 W.
