Services: The funeral will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 26, 2008 at St. Bartholomew United Church with Rev. Larry A. McConnell officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation: The viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hilbert R. Garvick, 92, of Hanover, devoted husband of 71 years to Ruby Meckley Garvick, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008 at Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home.Born on December 9, 1916 in Carroll County, Maryland, he was a son of the late Bert and Mary Snyder Garvick. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ivan, Oscar and Sterling Garvick and three sisters, Ruth Klinedinst, Margaret Kretz, and Alvie Stauffer. A farmer for Winebrenner Farms for many years, he also worked on the maintenance crew for South Hills Golf Course, retiring last year at the age of 91. He was a member of council at St. Bartholomew United Church, a life member of the Friendship Fire Company and was a contributing member of the Jefferson Sportmans Club and the N.R.A.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Russell E. Garvick and his wife, Nancy of Hanover; a grandson, Jerry Garvick and his wife, Brenda of Linglestown, PA; a great-grandson, Russell Allen Garvick and his wife Jessi; a great-great-grandson, Ryan Jeffrey Garvick, all of Halifax, PA; and a brother, Lavern Garvick and his wife, Rita Mae of Hanover.
