Helen B. “Chubb” Smith, 95, of Hanover, entered God’s eternal care on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Hanover Hospital.
Born on Thursday, September 18, 1919 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late John Francis and Adelaide Cecelia Noel Bennett. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Howard Joseph Smith, who died in 1985; two infant children, Emily and Daniel Bennett; nine brothers, John, Francis, William, Frederick, Richard, Robert, Joseph, Michael, and Thomas Bennett, and two sisters, Sisters Mary Adelaide and Frances Celine Bennett. She was a graduate of the former Central Catholic High School and was an accomplished seamstress for Middleburg Manufacturing and House of Hanover.
Helen was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and was also a lifetime member of the YMCA, where she had been very active in the exercise class. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and took great pleasure in playing cards with her family and friends.
Survivors include three sisters, Ethel Resh and husband, Edward, of Hanover, Patricia Zdankowski of Oradell, NJ, and Dorothy Boyer of San Bruno, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with The Rev. Thomas E. Orukpe officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA, 17331.
