Harry J. Leppo

Harry J. Leppo, 92, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Homewood at Plum Creek following a brief illness.



Born on June 19, 1918 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Harvey and Lillie Dell Leppo and husband of 65 years to the late Pearl E. Leppo, who died in 2006. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Richard and Barry Leppo; a brother, Robert Leppo and a son-in-law, Charles L. Sager.



A carpenter by trade, he specialized in cabinetry and was employed by several contractors in the community. A lifelong member of St. Bartholomew United Church ELCA, he served as an elder for many years. Being that he was a child of the depression, he was inventive and industrious. He made brooms from broom corn, planted orchards with a variety of fruit trees and harvested honey and wax from the bees that helped to pollinate the farm. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and taking bus trips.



Survivors include two sons, David H. Leppo, Sr. and his wife, Kathy and Wayne L. Leppo and his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Shirley A. Sager, all of Hanover; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.



The funeral will be held at 11 AM Friday at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Austin L. Chinault officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the viewing one hour prior to the service.
