Harry "Jim" L. Hull

Harry “Jim” L. Hull, 76, of Hanover, husband of Margaret “Peggy” Trimmer Hull, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center following complications from a stroke.

Born on Wednesday, November 6, 1940 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late Fern D. and Florence Feeser Hull. He was a member of the 1958 Class of New Oxford High School, after which he began his career. He was a barber for more than 50 years, having owned and operated Hull’s Barber Shop on Baltimore Street for many of those years.

Mr. Hull loved people; he loved the energy and diversity that they brought and he was trusted by so many. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles as well as horses, knowing and understanding the power of both. He was a guide for many horse trail rides in the New Oxford Area and was skilled in the sport of skeet shooting, through which he won many awards. While he was opinionated, he was never mean and he always had a witty sense of humor to lighten the mood. He was an auto aficionado; enjoying the classics as well as the new, but keeping his beloved Mustangs close to his heart. A man of details, he was precise in his care of his automobiles as well as in his care of himself and in the management of his home. In addition to his barbershop, Mr. Hull sold real estate for over 34 years, helping each of his children and numerous friends buy their first homes. He was a selfless man and took care of everyone that he loved. He set the standard of a man of high moral character that will be his legacy.

In addition to his wife of nearly 34 years, he is survived by three daughters, Sharon “Sherry” Lukens and her husband, Keith, Vickie James and her husband, Neal all of Hanover and Melissa Smith and her husband, Brad of Cosby, TN; three step-sons, David Spence of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Mike and Timothy Spence, both of York; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Hull and his wife Sally, Donald Hull and his wife, Brenda, all of Hanover, Gary “Butch” Hull and his wife, Brenda of New Oxford; two sisters, Betty “Sis” Reese and Barb Hull, both of Hanover and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 am Tuesday, November 22. 2016 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc. 311 Broadway, Hanover with Pastor Stephen Propalis officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
