Harry L. Custer, 87, of Hanover, died peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at his home following an extended illness.



Born August 10, 1922, he was a son of the late Porter L. and Catherine Green Custer. He was the husband of nearly 53 years to Caroline Miller Custer, who died in 2002, and was also preceded in death by three brothers and a step-brother.



Mr. Custer served in the United States Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars for his service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and life member of the Hanover VFW Post 2506 and Harold H. Bair American Legion Post 14.



He is survived by his son, Doug Custer and his wife, Missy of Hanover; three grandsons; a granddaughter and a great-grandson.



The viewing will be held from 10-10:45 am Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. Friends and family will then process to Marburg Memorial Gardens for the military graveside service to be conducted at 11:00 am by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
