Gregory M. Bean

Gregory Matthew Bean, 64, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Hanover and Boynton Beach, FL, unexpectedly passed away on July 24, 2024.

Born on Friday, July 22, 1960 in Shillington, PA, he was the son of the late Gerald H. Bean and Miriam J. (Kauffman) Bean. Greg was a 1978 graduate of Hershey High School. He attended Harrisburg Area Community College and Eastern Kentucky University for his undergraduate degree. He received his MBA from Florida Atlantic University. Greg served at the Boynton Beach Police Department in Boynton Beach, FL from 1982 - 2002 and as Chief of Police of the Southwestern Regional Police Department in Spring Grove, from 2002 - 2019. Since retiring from the police force, Greg was employed with the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association in Harrisburg.

Greg was an exceptional human. As a father, husband, brother, grandfather, co-worker and mentor - he radiated the love of Jesus and was a gentle encourager, leader and man of God. Greg spent his life serving others within his community, church, family and friends. His intentional nature and mindful demeanor brought a sense of calm to those around him. He was known for his sense of humor and endless “Dad Jokes” that brought a smile to everyone’s face.

Greg was notorious for saying “Every day is a good day” whenever asked about how his day was going. He loved camping, traveling, biking, and spending time with friends and family. He loved working on his cars, motorhome, and projects around the house. Greg gained confidence and strength from his relationship with Jesus, as well as daily mindfulness and positive mental attitude practices. He loved life endlessly and lived it to its fullest. Greg was loved by all who met him and is missed immeasurably.

Greg is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shelly Ann (Lamson) Bean; daughter, Kylie Bean Kemper and son-in-Law, Jake Kemper; sons, Parker Bean and daughter-in-Law, Erin Kelly-Bean, and Trevor Bean; his brother, Scott Bean and wife, Robyn; sisters, Marcia Reed and husband, Joseph, and Sally Neher and husband, Van; and his "Grand Dogs", Leo, Blu and Olive. He is preceded in death by his adored grandson, Hayes Merritt Kemper, son of Kylie and Jake.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 AM at LCBC West Shore, 200 Lambs Gap Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
