A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday, August 9, 2008 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church by Father John A. Szada, Jr.. Burial will follow in the St. Vincent Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Warren Eddie Carbaugh, Larry Little, Phil Staub, Joe Klunk, Reggie Miller, and Chris Groft.
Visitation: A viewing will be held from 6:30-8:00pm Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Panebaker Funeral Home.
Gerard F. Groft, 69, of Hanover, PA passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at his home.Jerry, a lifelong resident of Hanover, was born September 14, 1938 to the late Earl and Anna Myers Groft. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Glennie and Barbara Klunk. A 1956 graduate of Delone High School, he was a retired employee of P.H. Glatfelter.Known to his childhood friends and family as Sonny, he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Republican Club. He completed 13 marathons and was a member of the South Penn Road Runners. He loved music and enjoyed singing at St. Vincent Church and with the Hanover Community Singers.Survivors include his wife of 49 years and the love of his life, Nancy; his daughter, Jill M. Groft Griffith and her husband, Alan, of Fredericksburg, VA; his son, Chris Groft and his wife, Tammy, of Hanover; five grandchildren, who had a special place in his heart and made him smile, Lee-Ann Brown, Anna Griffith, Lindsay Groft, Sarah Groft, and Lucas Griffith; and his brother, Leon “Bud” Myers.
