Gerald J. McBride, Sr., 87, of Hanover, husband of Olivia McBride, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon.
Born on Friday, February 3, 1933 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late James A. and Mildred Bonich McBride. Mr. McBride received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Mary’s of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS and later earned his Master’s degree from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. In 1995, he retired from Delone Catholic High School where he was a History and Economics teacher for 28 years. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 2551 in McSherrystown. In his spare time, he enjoyed airplanes, learning to fly, reading, playing golf and diving into history.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 51 years, are three children, Mary Therese Bridges of Overland Park, KS, Gerald J. “Jerry” McBride, Jr. and his wife, Stacy, of Hanover, and James “Kevin” McBride and his wife, Youngsun, of Seoul, South Korea; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Megan, Victoria, Tara, Jack, MacKenzie, Evelyn and Chloe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Vincent dePaul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover by The Rev. Michael P. Reid, II. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
In compliance with health and public safety directives, those attending will be required to wear masks and be socially distanced.
