Gerald M. Beresny

Dr. Gerald Michael Beresny, 79, of Hanover and formerly of State College, husband of Luann Johnson Beresny, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at his home after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Born on Tuesday, August 20, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was a son of the late John and Mary Sofchak Beresny. Gerry was a 1962 graduate of Bishop Duffy High School in Niagara Falls, a 1966 graduate of Niagara University, and a 1971 graduate of the University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. He served his internship at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ and residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. In 1979, he joined Dr. Robert Hunter in his ENT practice in State College and retired in 2013 after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover and proudly served his country as a Major in the US Air Force. Gerry loved to travel, play poker and golf with his buddies. Moreover, his greatest passion was to spend time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Beth Neiderer and her husband, Jason, of Hanover; two sons, Michael Scott Beresny and Timothy Gerald Beresny, both of State College; two grandchildren, Mason Andrew Neiderer and Jillian Rose Neiderer; and two brothers, John T. Beresny and his wife, Joanne of Lewiston, NY and Eugene N. Beresny of Niagara Falls, NY; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Thomas John Beresny; and a sister, Elaine Beresny.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, November 27, 2023 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 867 Gray’s Woods Blvd., Port Matilda, PA 16870. Burial will follow in Centre County Memorial Park in State College. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 10:30 AM Monday prior to the service.
