George L. Wisner, 73, of Hanover, beloved husband of Darlene K. Becker Wisner, died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his home following a valiant six month battle with brain cancer.
Born on Monday, January 24, 1944 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Robert A. and Mary G. Wetzel Wisner. A 1961 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he was employed by P.H. Glatfelter for 37 years before he retired in 2002. He later returned to the company in a part-time position. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a master storyteller and loved to tell the escapades of his sons and grandchildren, whom were the joys of his life.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two sons, Scott A. Wisner and his wife, Heather, of York and Steven M. Wisner and his wife, Joey, of Carlisle; five grandchildren, Kyle, Derek, Kelsey, Matthew and Jack Wisner; a sister, Susan Myers and her husband, David, of Naples, FL; two nieces and a nephew, Holly, Lauren and Andy; an extended family of in-laws which include Gerald and Joan Grim and Marlan and Judy Dutterer and their families; and a special godson, Jim Dutterer, all of Hanover.
The memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at St. Paul’s (Dubs) Union Church, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover with The Rev. Scott A. Sager and The Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Burial will be held privately in the church cemetery following the service.
