George A. Trish, Jr., 84, of Hanover, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 at Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg following a brief illness.
Born on Saturday, October 18, 1930 in Hanover, he was the son of the late George A. Trish, Sr. and Pete and Rebecca Trish Eckard. He was also preceded in death by his wife Gloria Sanders Trish, who died in 1989; a sister, Mary Caler; a daughter, Mary E. Trish Knight; and two grandsons, Jonathon Laughman and Shawn Mallette.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Trish proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was formerly employed at Emeco as a lineman. George enjoyed playing cards, where poker was his most favorite game. He also enjoyed spending time reading books and magazines and buying scratch off tickets, as he was often lucky. He was always helping his neighbors, whether it was with their yard work or in their community building. He had unique talents; one being his strong, distinct whistle and another being able to walk on his hands up and down the street. His family will remember him for his ability to cook and his love of extra onions. The special Wednesday lunches with his sisters and children as well as the family gatherings on the holidays and for summer barbeques were very special to George.
Survivors include two daughters, Jodi Unger and her husband, Larry of McSherrystown, Brenda M. Mallette and her boyfriend, John William of New Oxford; four sons, George A. Trish, III and his longtime companion, Joanne Smith of Spring Grove, Gregory A. Trish of York, Michael A. Trish and his wife, Julianna, and Kevin D. Trish all of Hanover; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Kelly of Emmittsburg, MD and several nieces and nephews.
