George Elwood Miller, 92, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Homewood at Plum Creek following a period of declining health.
Born on Friday, June 1, 1923 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Charles S. and Mary Epley Miller, and husband of the late Dorothy Penner Miller, who died in 2010. He was also preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, a great-great-grandson, Uriah Gonzalez and his previous wife and mother of his children, Treva C. Harner Miller, who died in 1999.
George served with the United States Army, as a combat engineer, during World War II. He was self-employed as a painter and wallpaper hanger for many years in the Hanover area before retiring in 1982. He was a talented musician, a one man band of sorts, who played instruments ranging from the harmonica to the bejeweled guitar to the accordion. Skilled with his hands and having an attention to detail, he enjoyed assembling model cars and giving them away as gifts. He enjoyed the game of Checkers and had a smile that was contagious. He had a compassionate heart; he picked up hitchhikers and was a great witness for Jesus Christ.
