Gene C. "Lookie" Lookenbill

Gene C. “Lookie” Lookenbill, 82, of Hanover, beloved husband of Betty J. Forry Lookenbill, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Hanover Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on Wednesday, August 22, 1934 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Gilbert L. and Margaret Kessler Lookenbill. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gilbert J. and Gordon D. Lookenbill. A 1952 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he was one of the members of the esteemed 1952 Hanover High School Basketball team that won the South Penn Conference Boys’ Basketball Championship. He spent his career at P.H. Glatfelter, retiring in 1994 after 38 years of service.
An avid golf player, he enjoyed playing on many local courses but was a member of a team at Flat Bush Golf Course for 25 years. He shot a 66 on his 66th birthday. He was a friendly and honest man who spoke his mind and was well liked by many.
In addition to his wife with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage next month, he is survived by his children, Bob Lookenbill and his wife, Jane of East Berlin, Joe Lookenbill and his wife, Cindy of FL and Jane Rourke of WV; three grandchildren, Clayton P. Rourke, Jodie Lookenbill and Lee Lookenbill; two step-grandchildren, Tammy Rinehart and Russ Bevans, Jr.; four step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 7 pm Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
