Services: A service of remembrance will be held 3:30PM Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York Street, Hanover. Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Karin Stork-Whitson.
Visitation: A time to meet with the family will be Sunday from 1:30 until the time of service at the church.
Garry L. Bentzel, 68, of Hanover, died Friday morning, June 20, 2008, at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband of Ruby Myers Bentzel whom he married July 2, 1960. Born in Hanover on May 11, 1940, he was the son of Earl S. Bentzel of Hanover and the late Nadine Flickinger Bentzel who died 1995. Mr. Bentzel was a member of the Class of 1958 of Eichelberger High School. Until his retirement on January 1, 2006, he, along with his wife, had been the owner of Dutch Country Restaurant in Hanover for 33 years. Active in the community, Mr. Bentzel was a member of Penn Township Ambulance Club, Parkville Fire Company, and the Hanover Pacers Square Dancers Club. He was involved in scouting from his early youth until the '70's. Mr. Bentzel was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover. During his retirement, he had acquired a great love for farming. A service of remembrance will be held 3:30PM Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York Street, Hanover. A time to meet with the family will be Sunday from 1:30 until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul's (Dubs) Church Cemetery. Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Karin Stork-Whitson. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Bentzel, Cody Bentzel, Elwood McManus, Ryan McManus, Shane McManus, and Ben Benedict. Surviving Mr. Bentzel in addition to his wife and father are his daughters Debra McManus wife of Elwood of Spring Grove, Sherry Diehm of Hanover, and Wendy Benedict wife of Ben of Hanover; his son Steven Bentzel of Frederick, MD; his grandchildren Cody Bentzel companion of Casie Grimes, Ryan McManus, Kristen Diehm, Shane McManus, Nicole McManus, Alicia Bloom, and Alexander Bloom; His great grandchildren Trinity Dehoff and Leala Dehoff; his brothers Max Bentzel of Carlisle, Michael Bentzel of Westerly, RI; and his sisters Nancy Persinger of Hanover and Cindy Null of New Oxford.
