Frederick E. Rummel

Frederick E. Rummel, 83, of Hanover, beloved husband of Anna Mae Hostetter Rummel, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Hanover Hospital following a brief illness.

Born on Sunday, January 14, 1934 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late Grace Groscost Rummel Lehigh and the late Curtis A. Rummel. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Lloyd, Orville and Cyril Rummel and two sisters, Blanche Bixler and Janet Frock.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, earning rank of Corporal. He was employed by Hanover Concrete as a truck driver for 44 years until his retirement in January 1996. He was an active member of Grace United Church of Christ, where he assisted with the clothing bank and in making bed pads for cancer patients. Skillful with his hands, he repaired anything from hymnals to the church elevator.

In addition to his wife of nearly 65 years, he is also survived by a son, Roy Rummel and his wife, Tina of St. Thomas, PA; two grandchildren, who were very special to him, Nathan E. Rummel of Shippensburg and Megan L. Rummel of St. Thomas; one sister, Ruth Groft of New Oxford; a sister-in-law, Polly Rummel of New Oxford and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 3pm Wednesday at Rest Haven Cemetery with The Rev. Melissa Eicholtz officiating. Military graveside rites will be rendered by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
