Fred W. Swisher, 86, of Hanover, died peacefully Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Lutheran Retirement Village at Utz Terrace.
Born September 26, 1923 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Roy D. and Esther R. Myers Swisher. He was a member of the Eichelberger High School class of 1940, a graduate of the Thompson Business School in York and the US Army Adjutant School in Fort Washington, MD.
Mr. Swisher was a 45-year employee of Hanover Shoe retiring in 1986 as the chief accountant and assistant secretary. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a life member of Hanover VFW Post #2506 and the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, where he served as the adjutant and finance officer during the 1970’s. He was also a life member of McSherrystown Fish & Game.
Survivors include a son, Ron Swisher and wife, Lori of New Cumberland, PA; a daughter, Debra Swisher Horn and husband Bob of Bella Vista, AR; two grandchildren, Ian Swisher and wife Traci, and Marcus Swisher of Lancaster, PA; several great-grandchildren and a loving companion, Irene Shutts.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Mount Olivet Cemetery with The Rev. Kirk Griffin officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
