Frances C. Stambaugh, 91, a lifetime resident of Hanover, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Homewood at Plum Creek.



Born on June 18, 1919 in Pennville, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie Rebel Scheivert. Frances was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 64 years, the late Burnell C. Stambaugh, who passed away in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, William and Mark Scheivert.



In her early years, Frances worked to help support her parents and family at Hanover Shoe Company. After her marriage, she served as corporate Secretary of her husband's business, Hanover Industrial Machine Company (HIMCO).



An active participant in the community, Frances was an Adult Safety Patrol Guard at York and Hanover Streets insuring the safety of many children. She also helped support our democratic way of life by volunteering at the voting poles for many years. Frances was the Past Matron of the Hanover Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star # 378, Mother of Rainbow Girls Organization and member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Together with her husband and friends, Frances enjoyed traveling to many countries around the world. She will be most remembered by her friends and family as the ultimate cook and hostess, and will be sorely missed as the matriarch, advisor and loving mother to her family.



Survivors include three sons, Larry L. Stambaugh of Warminster, Terry L. Stambaugh of State College, and Robert J. Stambaugh of Carver, MA; one daughter, Patricia A. Ruth of Abbottstown; one sister, Marie Schuchart of Abbottstown; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.



The funeral will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Homewood at Plum Creek with The Rev. Joel B. Hummel officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the viewing one hour prior to the service in the Chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek.



Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
