Faye Young

Edna Faye Young, 72, of Hanover, previously of Westminster, MD, entered into God’s garden on Monday, March 2, 2015 from Johns Hopkins Medical Center following a brave battle with Myelodysplasia.

Born on Saturday, May 16, 1942 in Cooksville, MD, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Mary Simms Burns.  She attended Lisbon High School, then transferred to Howard High School and later married Theodore W. Young on December 5, 1959.  While raising her daughters and taking care of her household,   Faye was active in Carroll County, Maryland 4-H, leading  and mentoring youth for many years.  Faye also worked for her sister, Jeanette at MTS, in Sykesville, MD.  Additionally, she served as a craft instructor for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.  After moving to Hanover, she owned and operated The Flower Peddler on York Street, then worked alongside her daughters Helen and Barbie, at the Black Rose of Hanover Tea Room.   Faye was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene and provided their altar flowers for many years.  Faye had an eye for detail and loved creating beautiful things for her family and friends.  An avid gardener, she found peace and serenity in the many happy hours spent gardening with her husband.   At the end of the day, when she laid down the garden spade or the glue gun, you could find her on her screen porch enjoying  a good book. From tea parties to  birthday cakes, craft projects and puzzles, gin rummy and Scrabble, Faye was dedicated to enjoying her grandchildren and watching them grow.

In addition to her loving husband of 55 years, she is survived by three daughters, Helen L. Widdowson and her husband, Douglas of Carlisle; Kathy Beland and her husband, Tom of Clarendon, VT; and Barb Denk and her husband, Bill of Hanover; six grandchildren, Tanner Widdowson and his wife, Stephanie, Benjamin Widdowson, Erin Perry and her husband Will, Joseph Beland, Adam Denk and Emily Denk; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Perry; five sisters, Mary Ann Stokes, Jeannette Miller, Lillian Miller, Linda Gaskill and Glady Morris; and a brother, Oliver Burns.   She was preceded in death by a sister Loretta Best; and three brothers, Sterling, Allen and Leonard “Tuck” Burns.

The funeral will be held at 11am Friday, March 6, 2015 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 205 Fulton Street, The Rev. Gerald R. Dunlap officiating.   Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.   The family will receive friends at a viewing from 3 pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday evening at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover.
