Services:

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Monday, June 15, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 101 N. Peter Street, New Oxford by The Rev. Daniel P. O’Brien. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Members of her family will be serving as her pallbearers.
Visitation:
The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with the Rosary service being said at 8 pm.
Evelyn L. Smith, 82, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Cross Keys Village—The Brethren Home community following a period of declining health. Born on November 14, 1926, she was a daughter of the late George Becker, Sr. and Clara Sipling Becker. While Evelyn was still very young, her mother died and her father remarried the only mother she ever knew, the late Mildred Sipling Becker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Smith, a son, Dennis M. Smith and a brother, George Becker, Jr. She was employed in the 1960’s by Lana Lobell, but spent most of her life caring for and nurturing her family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford and enjoyed reading and putting puzzles together.Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Smith and his wife Robin of Spring Grove; three daughters, Donna Gochenauer and her husband Richard; Jennifer Smith, all of New Oxford and Ellen Sprenkle and her husband Jason of Spring Grove; a daughter-in-law, Joan Smith of Hanover; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mildred Hertz, Gloria Hooper, Dolores Martz, Rose Frey and Barbara Kopp; seven brothers, Warren Becker, John Becker, Donald Becker, Barry Becker, Stan Becker, Russell Becker and James Becker; and many nieces and nephews.
