Evelyn M. Bennett, 94, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on September 1, 1919 in New Oxford, she was a daughter of the late William and Edna Todt and wife of the late William J. Bennett, Sr., who died in 1958 and Michael J. Bennett to whom she was married for over 44 years and who died in 2007. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Smith and Rita Moore and a brother, Harold Todt.
She was a graduate of New Oxford High School, where she was the salutatorian of her class. A member of St. Vincent de Paul Church for over 60 years, she was extremely devoted to her family. She enjoyed bowling, working crossword puzzles with her grandchildren, and walking everywhere in town.
She is survived by three daughters, Louise Gatton and her husband, Lawrence of Summerville, SC, Lorraine Campbell of Woodbridge, VA, and Joanne Smith and her husband, Kevin of Hanover; two sons, William J. Bennett and his wife, Susan of Littlestown and Jerry Bennett and his girlfriend, Debra Jones of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, with The Rev. John D. Schmalhofer serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover before the service at the church.
