Emory George Kern

Emory “George” Kern, 80, of Spring Grove, loving husband of Antonia Withers Kern, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Hanover Hall following a period of declining health.

Born on March 3, 1931 in York, PA, he was a son of the late Emory J. and Catherine Strausbaugh Kern. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Francis Kern and an infant brother and sister. He attended York Catholic High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spring Grove. Following more than 25 years of service, he retired from Eagle Snacks. He loved nature and animals and enjoyed spontaneous road trips.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by two daughters, Jessie Smith and her husband, Jim of Dover and Jenny Bradenbaugh and her husband, Lee of York; a son, James Kern and his wife, Lori of Thomasville; and four grandchildren, Amber, Alex, Jade and Elizabeth.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Thomas C. Marickovic officiating. Burial will be held privately.
