Elvira G. Sweeney, 86, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at DaVita Hanover Dialysis.
Born on August 20, 1934 in Flushing, NY, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Dunham Kaferlein. She was also preceded in death by her husband of more than 30 years, John Joseph Sweeney who died in 1988; a sister, Dolores Rouge; and two brothers, Charles and Edward Kaferlein. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include six children, Laura Barnes and her husband, Hal, of Biglerville, James Sweeney and his wife, Donna, of Bohemia, NY, Lisa Sweeney, of Hanover, John Sweeney and his wife, Andrea, of Palm Coast, FL, Glenn Sweeney and his wife, Elaine, of East Islip, NY, and Brian Sweeney and his wife, Lisa, of Douglasville, GA; twelve grandchildren, Mark Barnes, Sarah Jones, Jennifer, James, Travis, Tristan, Sean, Kelsey, Logan, Lukas, Caleb and Carrigan Sweeney; five great-grandchildren, Corrin and Gibson Jones, and Mason, Scarlett and Ezekiel Sweeney; a brother, Donald Kaferlein; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 2PM to 4PM on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A mass will be held at 11AM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons officiating.
In compliance with health and public safety directives, those attending will be required to wear masks and be socially distanced.
