Elvin R. “Rich” Huppman,81, of Hanover, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 11, 2015 at his home.
Born on Saturday, April 21, 1934 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Myrna Kessler Huppman. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Phyllis J. Huppman, who died in 2012; two sons, Lynn Huppman, who died in 1972 and Rick Huppman, who died in 1993; and a half-brother, Archie Rohrbaugh.
Mr. Huppman retired in 1996 from the PH Glatfelter Company after nearly 25 years of service. He served with the US Army National Guard and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on York Street in Hanover. Along with his late wife, he was a faithful volunteer with PAL for more than 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking and always kept busy doing projects around the home.
Survivors include a son, Donald E. Huppman and his wife, Melissa, of Glen Rock; one grandson, Donald E. “Donnie” Huppman, II and his fiancée, Mikaela of Hanover; and two step-grandchildren, Amber Crawford and her husband, David, of Hanover and Kris Kappes of McSherrystown.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover with The Rev. E. Robert Burkhart officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites being rendered by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover and one hour prior to the service at the church.
