Elsie A. Mummert, 84, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from Cross Keys Village—The Brethren Home Community following a brief illness.
Born on December 20, 1926 in Littlestown, she was a daughter of the late Edward C and Gabrile H. Todt Smith and wife of almost 35 years to the late Robert A. Mummert, who passed away in 1980. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kristoffer Michael Mummert; a daughter-in-law, Rose Elaine Mummert; a great-grandson, Elijah Michael Mummert; one sister and five brothers.
Elsie loved to sew and spent her working career at Freeman Shoe Factory and later Hanover Shoe, before she retired at the age of 70. She was tirelessly devoted to her family and her main interest in life was to remain active in her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ lives. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her four children, Robert Allen Mummert and his companion, Patti McClure of Colchester, VT, Harry E. Mummert, Sr. and his wife, Mary, Sharon L. Myers and her husband, Steven, all of New Oxford and Bonnie West and her husband, Richard, of Dover; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Harry Jr., Victoria, Steven Michael, and Seth; five great-grandchildren, Kristoffer, Sarah, Dylan, Rebecca and Cheyenne and nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Monday with a prayer service to be held at 8:15 pm at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A second viewing will also take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
