Ellsworth O. “JR” Tanner, Jr., 69, of Dover, loving husband of Deborah Tanner, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at York Hospital with his wife by his side.
Born on Sunday, September 28, 1947 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Ellsworth O. Tanner, Sr. and Ruth E. Kahlbaugh Tanner. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley A. Weaver and Deborah A. Ditch.
JR was a graduate of Hanover High School and was a retired employee of Caterpillar, Inc. after 36 years of service. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Caterpillar golf team and the AARP golf league. For many years, he would work at the Hanover Bowling Center during the Glenn E. Bair Tournament and also enjoyed bowling in his free time. He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover.
In addition to his wife of 26 years, survivors include two daughters, Tammy Strawsburg and her husband, Chris, and Traci Tanner; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Daryl M. King, Christina J. Krug and Barbara L. Utz; numerous nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Kirk A. Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
