Ellene M. Yost, 88, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Wednesday, February 25, 1925 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Mazie Little Hoke and wife of 62 years to the late Wilbur A. Yost, who died in 2006. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith E. Kuntz; a son-in-law, Dennis “Butch” Meckley; and four brothers.
She was a 1943 graduate of Eichelberger High School and had been a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for more than 50 years. While at Trinity, she was a member of the Consistory, a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and served on a committee that baked sugar cookies for church fundraisers. Ellene was a member of the Community Singers, was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and served as a Grey Lady at Hanover Hospital. She was an avid golfer who played in a Tuesday morning league and was a fine artist who enjoyed painting covered bridges.
She is survived by a son, Wade Yost of Ruffs Dale; two daughters, Rebecca Meckley of Hanover and Libby Donatelli and her husband, Jeff, of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 pm Monday, September 30, 2013 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Dr. Bruce P. Bouchard officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
