Elizabeth Som Szabo , 79, returned to her Heavenly Father on January 17, 2018 at 9:07 a.m. surrounded by family at Tonganoxie Nursing Center in Kansas. She joins her late husband of 47 years, Josef Szabo and her beloved son, Frank Szabo, missing both dearly throughout the years.
Mrs Szabo was born in Orszentmiklos, Hungary on April 28, 1938. She and her late husband escaped from their native country during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Raising five children, She also assisted her husband at Quality Shoe Repair, and she enjoyed deep sea fishing, winning the prize for catching the largest flounder. In her later years she moved to Kansas where Elizabeth shared her rich history, home cooking and faith with dear friends. Mrs Szabo enjoyed crafting and gave away most of her yarn work and beaded necklaces. She offered great advice and comfort to everyone she knew. She spread laughter through her jokes. Mrs Szabo impacted those around her with unconditional love.
She is survived by her three sons, Joe Szabo and his wife, Terry, of Reisterstown, MD, Charles Szabo of Columbia, PA, Christy Szabo (daughter-in-law and wife of Frank) of Platte City, MO, and Steve Szabo and his wife, Aileen, of Marietta, GA; a daughter, Elizabeth Schroder and her husband, Mike, of Basehor KS; and seven grandchildren, Katrina Szabo, Kristofer Szabo, Zachary Szabo, Alexandria Szabo, Galilea Szabo, Michael Schroder and Julianna Schroder.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to join the family afterwards for fellowship. A Celebration of Life service will also be held in Kansas at a later date.
