Services: A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut St., Hanover.
Visitation: Visitation will be in the church parlor Wednesday from 12 noon till 1:00 p.m.
FoElizabeth S. Forney, 95, of Hanover entered into God's eternal care 11:15 p.m. Friday evening, June 15, 2007 at Homewood at Plumcreek. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Rodgers and the late Charles Forney. Born in Hanover on May 13, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida Bowman Shirk. As a young child Mrs. Forney developed a passion for music and following graduation from Hanover High School in 1929, traveled to Nashville, TN where she attended Ward-Belmont College receiving an Associate degree in 1931. She continued her education at George Peabody College, also in Nashville and in 1933, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. Upon returning to Hanover, Mrs. Forney shared her love for music by giving voice lessons to many of our areas youth for many years. Along life's way, she had also attended the Juilliard School of Music, New York City, NY and Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD. In 1963, Mrs. Forney accepted a position as a Teacher with the Hanover Public School System and taught French and English at the Junior High level until her retirement in 1976. Mrs. Forney was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church singing in the choir over 40 years, also the YWCA, Visiting Nurse Association, Hanover Area Historical Society and as a Americab Red Cross Volunteer. She is survived by a daughter Margaret Rodgers of Astoria, NY, a son Charles Rodgers and wife Fran of Boston, MA, also two granddaughters Nicole and Victoria Rodgers. A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut St., Hanover. Visitation will be in the church parlor Wednesday from 12 noon till 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser will officiate. Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover is assisting the family with arrangements.
