Services: A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday, December 12, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ronald J. Smith, Dianne E. Eisenhauer, Carl V. Smith, Julia A. Klunk, Jason J. Smith, and Christine L. Baker.



Visitation: A viewing will be held 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with the Rosary being said at 7:45 PM.

Elaine M. Smith, 58, of Hanover, wife of 38 years of Michael L. Smith, passed away peacefully into God’s care surrounded by her family at her home on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.Born, November 3, 1950, in Hanover, she was a daughter of Mary T. Hartlaub Wilkinson of Gettysburg and the late Leo B. Hartlaub. She was a 1968 graduate of Delone High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.Mrs. Smith’s primary career was spent at home caring for and raising her children. More recently, she worked at Lincoln Intermediate Unit for the hearing impaired until her retirement. She was an advocate for the A.L.S. Association and loved the beach, cats, crafting, and her family.Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are her children, Kristy L. Pinda of Hanover, Nicole M. Bollinger and her husband, Luke, of Hampstead, MD, and Douglas M. Smith and his wife, Tracy, of Hanover; two granddaughters, Ashley and Victoria Pinda, both of Hanover; her sister, Christine L. Baker and her husband, Jim, of Hanover; her brother, Gregory A. Hartlaub; her step-father, Charles Wilkinson of Gettysburg; and many nieces and nephews.


Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pennsylvania State University A.L.S. Clinic; Department of Neurology, H037; Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center; Hershey, PA 17033; or to V.N.A. Hospice; 440 N. Madison Street; Hanover, PA 17331; or to St. Joseph Catholic Church; 5055 Grandview Road; Hanover, PA 17331.
