Edward M. Snyder, 85, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, January 14, 2011 at Hanover Hospital.
Born July 7, 1925 in Moulstown, he was a son of the late William H. and Gertrude McMaster Snyder. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Mr. Snyder was employed by Hanover Wire Cloth for 27 years, and was the owner and operator of Snyder’s Shoe Repair and owner of Bedford’s Shoe Store in Littlestown. Following his retirement, he was employed by Nell’s Shurfine grocery store. He was a member of the Hanover First Church of God and was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the McSherrystown Home Association and was a former long-time member of the Hanover Republican Club.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theda E. Colehouse Snyder; two daughters, Susan Woodward and her husband William, and Beth Meckley and her husband Tony, all of Hanover; six grandchildren, Scott Woodward of New York, NY, Kathy Long and her husband Chris, of Hanover, Michael Woodward and his wife Lynn, of Harrisburg, Tony Meckley, Jr. and his wife Robbi, Todd Meckley and his wife Kara, and Bethany Chance and her husband Michael, all of Hanover; and nine great-grandchildren, Owen, Kaelyn, Brayden, Brandon, Nicholas, Camryn, Carsyn, Jordan, Jake and another great-grandchild to be born in April, whom he anxiously awaited.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Hanover First Church of God with Pastor Jerry Shoap officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Tony Meckley, Jr., Todd Meckley, Michael Chance, Michael Woodward, Scott Woodward, Chris Long and Timothy Malkus. Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Long and Bethany Chance.
The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 12 – 1:00 PM Wednesday at the church.
