EDWARD J. Mr. Ed MALLON, 79, of Lake Meade, died Saturday morning, March 3, 2007 at his home. He was the husband of Bonnie L. Bonneville Mallon. He was preceded in death by his first wife Bernice A. Mallon. Born on November 9, 2007 in Manchester, NH, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Mary Jean Mallon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 6084 W. Canal Road, Abbottstown,PA. Celebrant for the Mass will be Rev.Michael E. Messner. Viewings will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm with the Rosary being recited at 8pm at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover,PA. Burial will be in the church cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail. Mr. Mallon enlisted in the Army Air Corps after graduating from St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, CT in 1946. He transferred to the United States Air Force when it was created in 1947 serving at bases in Ankara, Turkey; Kindley AFB, Bermuda; Sculthorpe, U.K. and Weisbaden, Germany. Chief Master Sergeant Mallon served with the Military Air Transport Service and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from active duty March, 1966. Almost immediately, he started his second career at HG Air Force Systems Command-Manpower Organization Division. He was awarded the 1988 Defense Department Distinquished Civilian Service Award, the highest award given to career employees. He retired AFSC Andrews Air Force Base in 1989 as Deputy Director of Civilian Manpower. He enjoyed his retirement by being active with the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club where he was a Life Member, The Gettysburg Americn Legion, the AARP Golf Association, the Hanover Bowling Senior League, and the Senior Softball Olympics in Maryland. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Abbottstown. Mr. Mallon was very interested in the Civil War and served as a docent for the Surratt House in Clinton MD. He was also a member of the East Berlin Library Club and the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mallon is survived by a son Edward Mallon Jr. and wife Kathy of Mt. Airy, MD; a daughter Barbara Dyson and husband Theodore of Clinton, MD; a stepdaughter Nikki Lemmerman and husband John of Westminster, MD; his grandchildren Edward (Joey) Mallon III, Emma Mallon, Matthew Dyson, and Rachael Rohan; his step grandchildren Emma Lemmerman and Gavin Lemmerman; his great granchildren Anthony Dyson, Rebecca Rohan and Ryan Rohan, and a brother Arthur Mallon of Yucca Valley CA. He is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, a nephew and his many friends who lovingly referred to him as Mr. Ed. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Day.
