Edward P. Holland, 78, of Hanover, beloved husband of Sherlynn Gamber Holland, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 9, 2014.
Born on August 1, 1936 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Edward P. Holland, Sr. and Grace Tydings Holland. A 1955 graduate of Baltimore City College, he served as a staff sergeant in the medic department of the National Guard during the Vietnam War. He retired after 40 years of employment with CSX Corporation as the Director of State Income and Excise Taxes. He was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was active with the Grandview Seniors. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was an avid reader who loved to putter around the house.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by three sons, Paul Holland and his wife, Martha of Westminster, MD; Joseph Holland and his husband, Jean Caufriez of Baltimore and Christopher Holland and his wife, Aliisa of Hanover; five grandchildren, Rachel Marie Holland, Elizabeth Grace Holland and her fiancé, Matthew Green, Christian Paul Owens Holland, Kyle Michael Holland and Sydney Margaret Holland; and one brother, John Charles Holland of Baltimore, MD.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6pm to 8 pm Wednesday evening at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with a prayer service being held at 8 pm.
