Earl W. “Bill” Wolfe, 85, of Hanover, loving husband of Nancy Leaman Wolfe, peacefully entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
Born on Monday, June 5, 1933 in Takoma Park, MD, he was a son of the late Harry William Wolfe and Esther Helen Coulter Wolfe. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Hanover First Church of God and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2506.
In 1985, he retired from the Washington Post after 32 years of service. Mr. Wolfe loved his church family and his friends at the YMCA, where he could be regularly seen. He enjoyed dancing with Nancy and adored his beloved pets, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 30 years, survivors include his daughter, Cindy Smetanick and her husband, Billy, of Tupper Lake, NY; three grandsons, Ian, Lucas and Max Smetanick; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Bancroft and Alma Grandosky; and a brother, Harry Wolfe.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 AM on July 21, 2018 at the Hanover First Church of God with Pastors Jerry Shoap and Dan Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Drive, Hanover, PA 17331 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
