Earl H. Newman, 82, of Hanover, peacefully entered into God’s eternal care Saturday, July 16, 2011 at his home.
Born December 3, 1928, he was a native of Union Mills, MD and a son of the late Noah E. and Hilda Henry Newman. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte M. Kale Newman, who died in 2004, and a daughter, Mary Jane McMaster, who died in 2007. He was a graduate of Westminster High School.
Mr. Newman was a foreman for Brooks Shoe Company for 23 years before being employed by Caterpillar, Inc. for 21 years until his retirement in 1991. He served with the US Navy and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Council #871 Knights of Columbus Hanover and had a passion for horse racing. He will be remembered as being a hard worker and dedicated father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include five sons, James E. Newman and his wife, Dawne, of Red Lion, Nicholas W. Newman and his wife, Darlene, of McSherrystown, Ronald J. Newman and his wife, Lori, of Hanover, Earl H. Newman, II and his wife, Deborah, of York, and Patrick J. Newman and his companion, Barbara Bowers, of Hanover; two brothers, Noah E. Newman, Jr. of Westminster, MD and Stewart Newman of Hanover; a son-in-law, James F. McMaster of Hanover; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover celebrated by The Rev. James E. Lease. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held 6-8:00 pm Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8:00 pm.
