Earl S. Bentzel, 96, of Hanover entered into God’s eternal care Thursday, October 1, 2009 at home with his family by his side.
Born March 17, 1913 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Calvin and Mary Selby Bentzel. He was the husband of the late Nadine Flickinger Bentzel, who died in 1995, and was also preceded in death by a son, Garry Bentzel, who died in 2008.
Mr. Bentzel retired in 1979, after 39 years of service from Leinhardt Brothers Furniture, where he was the store manager and furniture buyer. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, and was a member and past president of the local AARP Chapter 1842. Along with his late wife, he was active with the PAL Lunch program and Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include his four children, Max Bentzel and his wife Patricia of Carlisle, Nancy Persinger and her husband James of Hanover, Michael Bentzel of Westerly, RI, and Cindy Null and her husband David of New Oxford; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Bentzel of Hanover; a brother, Clair Bentzel of Hanover; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 5, 2009 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with burial to follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
