Douglas R. “Doug” Walker, 77, of Hanover, beloved husband of Cathy Drinkwater-Better Walker, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at UPMC Hanover.
Born on Tuesday, August 7, 1945, in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of the late Henry R. and Lillian Sereduke Walker. A lifelong Eagles and Phillies fan, Doug received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. He was employed by DuPont for 30 years and later worked for Dell Technologies for approximately 15 years before retiring. Doug enjoyed restoring antique cars; playing and collecting vintage banjos; fishing on the Bohemia River; and was, for many years, a dedicated long-distance runner who competed in high-profile marathons in the US and elsewhere, including the Boston, New York, and Marine Corps marathons. Additionally, he cheerfully endured—and contributed to—his wife’s Hello Kitty obsession.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 21-½ years, are a daughter, Beth Walker; three step-children: Josh, Zeb, and Heather Drinkwater; two brothers, Jasen (Esther) Walker and Jack (Joan) Walker; a niece; and several nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doug’s name may be made to a food assistance organization or program near you.
