Dorothy “Dot” A. Spangler, 84, of Hanover, died at Hanover Hospital surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 10, 2012 following a short illness.

Born on February 6, 1928 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Ralph G. Hertz, Sr. and Anna M. Hemler Hertz and wife of the late Robert A. Spangler, who died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her eight brothers and sisters, Francis Hertz, Norman Hertz, Lee Hertz, George Hertz, Cassie Chronister, Annie Keeney and Lillian Murren.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She will be remembered for being an honest woman, one who was straight forward in her talk and extremely devoted to her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Spangler and Anthony Spangler, both of Hanover; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Hertz of New Oxford and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held 11 am Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with Deacon Daniel Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens with Anthony W. Spangler, Thomas A. Spangler, Joshua D. Spangler, Thomas R. Spangler, Anthony L. Geiman and Jordan A. Spangler serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Saturday evening at the funeral home.
