Services: A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with her pastor, Rev. Thomas Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be George Baker, Melvin Baker, Franklin Baker, Michael Treadway, Donald Hippensteel, Jr., Dennis Treadway, and George Wysocki.
Visitation: A viewing will be held 7-9:00PM Monday, October 27, 2008 evening at the funeral home.
Dorothy A. “Dot” Surrency, 62, of Hanover and wife of Herbert Surrency to whom she was married 42 years, entered into God’s loving care Friday evening, October 24, 2008 at The Brethren Home Community.A lifelong resident of Hanover, she was born February 12, 1946, a daughter of the late Charles and Stella Mae Becker Hippensteel. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Hippensteel, Charles Hippensteel, Jr., and Ted Hippensteel; and two sisters, Ruth Shrader and Delores Rinehart.Mrs. Surrency was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hanover, and was also a member of # 923 Women’s Chapter of the Loyal Order of the Moose. She was active in the Democratic Party, and the Hanover Community Progress Council, which was organized by President Lyndon B. Johnson to help the poor and the needy. “Dot” was a second mother to many children through loving childcare she provided in her home. She was a racing fan of Rusty Wallace and enjoyed going to Trailways and Lincoln Speedways.Surviving, in addition to her husband, is her daughter, Sherri Lynn Surrency of the home; two sisters, Hazel Baker and Jean Treadway , both of Hanover; two brothers, Donald Hippensteel and wife, Joyce, of East Berlin, and Steve Hippensteel of New Oxford; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; a very close family friend, Robert Lockman of Biglerville; and two loving puppies, Zoe and Ginger.
