Dorothy Mary Strickler, 93, of Abbottstown, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022 at her home.
Born on November 25, 1928 in Wellsville, she was a daughter of the late Lafair H. Harget, Sr. and Mary Anna Beck Harget. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Gerald L. “Bud” Strickler, who died in 2011; a son, Robert Augustine, Jr.; two brothers, Lafair H. Harget, Jr. and Eugene Harget; a sister, Ethel Summers; and an infant sister, Marie Harget. A devoted Christian, Dorothy was a member of the Clearview Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Youngs Road in Hanover, being a dedicated, baptized witness for 50 years. She took great pleasure in art, animals and nature, and loved life.
Survivors include two children, Linda Knopp and her husband, Vincent Knopp, Jr., of York, and Cathy McKinney and her husband, Charles McKinney, Jr., of Abbottstown; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Theodore and James Harget; and two sisters, Arlene Landis and Helen Wildasin.
The funeral will be held at 7:00PM Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held privately in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1620 Young’s Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
